Aonghus Reidy AKA Ocean Floor returns after the sublime 4 Shadows record for Aphelion Edition with a much longer single piece, spread over 2 sides of 180gm vinyl. Named The World of Rain, Reidy conjures a similar sound as on his previous effort, utilising analogue synth to create a bubbling, liquid piece full of languorous melancholy. Side 1 is more brooding, playing with a long, slow sliding melody, with a hint of brooding menace teasing in and out of malice and melancholy, which eventually builds to a satisfying yet fatalistic crescendo. This long first side may take more than a few listens to appreciate its subtle beauty. Ponderous and infinitely sombre, Side 2 instantly hits you out the gate with its funereal underwater piano and organ sound, fading out. All in all, a record that deserves repeated, thoughtful listening.

Ocean Floor is the solo project of Aonghus Reidy (b.1985), an Irish
composer of electronic and instrumental music for instruments such
as synthesizer, harmonium and piano. Since his debut release 'Jupiter' in 2014, he has released several albums of slowly evolving harmonies and soundscapes, with elements of ambient, minimalist and experimental styles. Relocating to Bristol in 2011, his music took a new direction after finding an antique harmonium in a local salvage shop. Its creaking bellows inspired a series of compositions that meld 19thcentury music technology with dense clouds of electronic sound and reverb. More recent releases have ranged from pared-down piano compositions to analogue synth explorations.
